The weather was perfect and banks of the Delaware River were packed on Christmas Day.
The crowds were gathered at Washington Crossing Historic Park in Upper Makefield and across the river in New Jersey for the annual reenactment of Gen. George Washington’s Christmas 1776 trek to New Jersey before the Battle of Trenton, a turning point in the Revolutionary War.
About 250 reenactors took part the annual Christmas Day event with several dozen boarding Durham boats and crossing from Pennsylvania to New Jersey.
Thousands of people gathered to watch the crossing and explore the park before and after the reenactment.
John Godzieba, a lieutenant with Bristol Township Police Department, portrayed Washington and led the reenactors across the river.
