A Philadelphia teenager driving with a learner’s permit crashed a minivan into a tree on a highway ramp recently.

The single-vehicle crash happened at 8:05 p.m. on Friday, March 20, according to a statement this week from the Pennsylvania State Police.

A 17-year-old girl was driving a 2010 Honda Odyssey eastbound on I-295 when she attempted to exit onto the ramp for the Newtown Bypass. Troopers determined the driver was traveling at a speed too fast for conditions.

The minivan veered off the roadway and into a ditch before striking a tree, state police said.

The driver and her passenger, an 18-year-old Philadelphia woman, both sustained injuries.

The Yardley-Makefield Emergency Unit transported the driver to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township, while the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad took the passenger to the same hospital.

State police said the 17-year-old held only a learner’s permit at the time of the crash.

The girl has been charged with an offense related to being improperly accompanied while operating a vehicle with a permit.

The Honda Odyssey was towed from the scene.
