Forecasters warn a combination of snowmelt and rainfall could cause flooding cross Bucks County.

Small creek, stream and low-lying areas may see flooding after heavy rain will fall Wednesday afternoon and night. The .75 to 1.25 inches of rain that is expected to fall will come as warm temperatures melt snow that fell during last month’s blizzard, according to the National Weather Service.

In advance of the rain, the National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Bucks County. The watch runs Wednesday at noon to Thursday afternoon.

“Our main concern is the snow melt, even in areas that have recently lost substantial snow pack, because that means the ground is still saturated with water. Further north, there are areas with considerable snow pack remaining as of Tuesday afternoon,” a National Weather Service meteorologist told the New Hope Free Press.

The threat for flooding on the Delaware River isn’t as significant as flooding in smaller waterways.

Snow-blocked drainage systems could also cause problems as water will have trouble making it in to stormwater systems.

Small streams and creeks are expected to crest Thursday morning.
