Bone-chilling cold didn’t stop Newtown Borough police from conducting a traffic safety detail over the weekend.

Last Saturday night, officers from the borough conducted a speed detail. An official says nine vehicles were stopped and seven citations were issued. Five of the citations were for speeding on borough streets, one was an equipment violations and another was for a person driving on a  suspended license.

Speeders have been a problem on Newtown’s 25 MPH streets for years. In 2012, the borough purchased “Newtown Borough Pace Car for Safety” the magnets that were distributed to residents.
