The Council Rock School Board approved the calendar for the 2016-2017 school year at their Thursday evening meeting.
School for students in grades kindergarten through seventh and nine will begun August 29. The rest of the students would start class on August 30.
The board voted 8-1 to approve the calendar, which has been open for public review for the past weeks. Board member Mark Byelich was the lone dissenting vote and said he felt the pre-Labor Day start didn’t feel “feel logical to me.”
Superintendent Dr. Robert Fraser said the district has started before Labor Day many times in the past. He added that the early start will help the district make up snow days without extending the school year into summer.
