The 24-year-old Council Rock High School South graduate stabbed to death Sunday morning in Philadelphia will be laid to rest late this week.

An obituary said a viewing for Colin McGovern of Northampton will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. at Saint Vincent de Paul Church at 654 Hatboro Road in Richboro. McGovern will be interned at Lawnview Cemetery after an 11 a.m. funeral mass.

Philadelphia Police Department Homicide Capt. James Clark said earlier this week that an argument over a New Jersey Devil’s cap between McGovern, his friend and Steven E. Simminger, 40, Media, Delaware County, escalated quickly into a full out brawl in Rittenhouse Square in Center City. McGovern ended up on top of Simminger before the 40 year old plunged a knife he had with him into the torso of McGovern multiple times.

Good Samaritans aided McGovern at the scene, but he passed away a short time later at a city hospital.

Police said McGovern and his friends were in the park after a night out on the town.

Simminger has been charged with homicide and is being held in prison until a preliminary hearing.

In lieu of flowers, the McGovern family asks that be made contributions to Athletes Helping Athletes Inc. P.O. Box 172 Richboro PA 18954.
