Adaptive Signals Put Into Operation On Newtown Bypass

td_traficam

Travelers along the Newtown Bypass can expect new adaptive signals to be put into operation today, the adaptive signals are not a township initiative, but rather a PennDOT project.

The signals will be “fine tuned” throughout the week to ensure their accuracy, according to officials. Both the operation and maintenance of the system will be handled by PennDOT.

According to Rhythm Engineering, the new system is trained to adapt itself based on real-time demand of the lights. PennDOT reported that traffic delays drop about 13% with use of adaptive signal technology.

Passerby’s are encouraged to contact Rhythm Engineering if they notice an issue with the system along the bypass.
