April 8
Fraud
At approximately 12:15 p.m., a resident came to police headquarters to report fraudulent activity on his credit card account. The victim said that he in possession of his credit card when unknown person(s) in Minnesota charged $376 to his account.
Identity Theft
Police met with a resident at police headquarters around 1:20 p.m. so the resident could report that someone had used her personal information to open a charge account and charged $600 to the account. The victim also told the officer that she received a bill from AT&T Wireless in her name, but she does not have an account with them. The officer told the victim to monitor her credit rating, her bank accounts and to put a watch on her other cards.
April 9
Fraud Attempt
Police were dispatched to a home on Stoopville Road shortly after 1:30 pm.. to meet with the homeowner, who needed to report an attempt to defraud him. The victim explained that he received a phone call from a woman who identified herself as a public defender. She told the victim that his granddaughter had been arrested he needed to send $1,4650 by Money Gram to a bondsman in Orange, New Jersey. Fortunately the resident knew that the call was not legitimate so he didn’t send any money.
Identity Theft
At approximately 5:25 p.m. an officer met with a Wrightstown Township couple who reported the theft of their IRS 2015 tax return and their identity. They explained to the officer that he recently received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service indicating the agency received his Form 1040EZ for the tax year 2015. The couple did not file a Form 1040EZ, but had their long form completed by their personal accountant. The victims contacted the IRS representative agent, as directed in the letter and were advised to file this year’s return by paper through the USPS.
April 10
Hit-And-Run Accident
At approximately 5:20 p.m., police were dispatched to the parking lot of the Newtown Shopping Center for a report of a hit and run accident. When the vehicle owner showed the officer his damaged vehicle the officer advised that the damage had been intentionally caused. The damage appeared to have been done either by a screwdriver, blade, or a key. There were many scratches on the entire passenger side of the vehicle and the mirror had been rotated in. The victim then told the officer that she had recently reported being harassed by another female to Middletown Township Police Department.
April 11
Possible Theft
Around 7:10 p.m., Newtown Township Police received a call from a man who reported that while he and his 92 year-old mother were having lunch at Marco’s Pizzeria his mother’s purse was lost or stolen. The man returned to the restaurant and viewed the security tapes with staff but was unable to see the purse. The purse was described as a blue/cream canvas bag. It was estimated that the wallet in the bag contained between $300 and $400.
April 12
Theft
A Newtown Township resident came into police headquarters at approximately 12:30 p.m. to report that he had ordered a previously owned cell phone from AT&T but when the package was delivered there was no phone in the box. The victim said that when he notified AT&T of the situation he was told he would need a police report before a new phone was issued to him.
