A Bensalem firefighter with Newtown ties fell through the roof of a burning home Saturday.

Former Newtown Fire Association Battalion Chief Nick Weaver, who currently works as a Bensalem firefighter and volunteers with Nottingham Fire Company, fell through the third-story roof of a burning home in the 1100 block of Tennis Avenue Saturday morning.

A mayday call was radioed by firefighters after Weaver fell through the roof of the burning house. Police said Weaver was rushed via ambulance to Torresdale Hospital for injuries to his face, neck and back. As of Saturday night, he was listed in stable condition.

The fire destroyed the heavily damaged the home and “appears to have originated in a second floor bedroom which quickly spread to the attic,” police said. They added that the cause does not appear suspicious.

Weaver won the Newtown Fire Association’s Richard A. Keen Scholarship in 2007 and volunteered at the fire station since he was 16.
