Possible DUI
At approximately 3 a.m. an officer was travelling south on Durham Road approaching the Newtown Bypass when he observed a motorist travelling on Durham Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle began to rotate clockwise, stopped and regained control. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver was identified as 27-year-old Brian Kulbert of Azealia Court in Newtown. Upon initial contact with Kulbert, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. After a brief investigation, the officer formed the opinion that Kulbert was under the influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance to a degree which rendered him incapable of safe driving. Kulbert taken into custody and transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown to have blood drawn, which will be submitted to a lab for testing. Charges of DUI are pending the lab results.
Scam
Around noon, a resident came to headquarters to report that she believes that she is being scammed. The woman explained that she posted an advertisement on the internet looking for a job walking dogs for people. She received a reply from a subject who said that he was moving to the area and needed someone to care for his two dogs. The subject then sent the resident a check in a large amount instructing her to deposit it keep a set portion and sent the balance to another address. At that point the resident realized that the situation was a scam and came to report it to police. She was advised to stop all contact with the subject

Fraud
Shortly before 9 a.m., a resident came to headquarters to report that person(s) unknown added three additional phone numbers and purchased a phone against her Verizon Account. The victim is in the process of working out her bill with Verizon and all numbers have since been cancelled. She said that in order to add the phone numbers to her account you have to have her social security number. She was advised to contact the credit bureaus and to monitor her credit.
