A Bensalem firefighter with Newtown ties is still recovering after falling through the roof of a burning home several weeks ago.

According to a recent donation page, Nick Weaver, who formerly served as the Newtown Fire Association Battalion Chief,  fell approximately 35 feet and suffered numerous fractures in his back in addition to a head injury. Weaver, who was rushed by ambulance to Torresdale Hospital, was later transferred to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital prior to being released.

“We, at [the] Bensalem Fire Rescue & Nottingham Fire Department are setting up this GoFundMe account as a way for friends and family to show their love and support for two honest, hardworking and incredible people, who mean everything to us.  No donation is too small. Together we can provide tremendous financial relief for Nick and Erin,” notes the online donation page.

The page, which had raised nearly half of its budget by Tuesday afternoon, seeks to help both Weaver and his fiance with living and medical expenses. According to those involved, Weaver’s fiance, Erin, has become his caregiver. The two were scheduled to be married early next year.
