Newtown Borough is looking to hire a new police officer.

At the Newtown Borough Council meeting earlier this month, it was announced that Officer Colleen Rosenfeld was resigning as of June 20. Her resignation comes as she has been hired by Lower Southampton to join the police force as a patrol officer.

Mayor Charles “Corky” Swartz said at the meeting he wished the 12-year veteran of the borough police department well as she continues her career.

Newtown will work to fill the position, but Council President Bob Walker warned that process might take several months. The borough, according to Swartz will be hiring Rosenfeld’s replacement through the Civil Service process.

Currently, the borough has four full-time patrol officer position and a full-time chief. In addition, several part-time officers supplement the full-time officers in their efforts to keep the borough safe.
