Upper Makefield has declined a request to snow plow a private roadway during the upcoming winter season.

The Upper Makefield Board of Supervisors voted down the request to have the public works crews clear snow from Three Ponds Lane off Pineville Road.

Township Manager Jim Pascale said he reviewed documents that show Three Ponds Lane is a private road and the developer did not create the roadway to fit guidelines set by the municipality.

In addition to the road not fitting township parameters, Pascale said the public works crew has only four full-time employees and would find it “very difficult” to add more streets to their routes.

“The only roads everybody should pay for are the general roads that we all use, not the private roads that you live on,” Supervisor Mike Tierney said.

Supervisor Tom Cino, who abstained from the vote, said he wasn’t for or against the request but wanted to see numbers on the cost.

Larry Young, the engineer for Upper Makefield, said there are 7 miles of private roads in the township.
