Jason ‘Jay’ Green may be moving the location of his beloved Penndel food joint, but he’s not wavering on his support for the community.
After seven years on location at 313 West Lincoln Highway as the owner of Steak and Hoagie Factory and another three years as the owner of his independent Jay’s Steak and Hoagie Joint, Green’s lease has ended and he’s preparing to set up shop at a new location, yet to be remodeled, in the Parkland section of Langhorne.
Green’s last day at his shop in Penndel will be this Sunday, June 26.
After that, Green will be focused on renovating his new space and providing even greater givebacks to the community than ever before.
While his space at 1205 Highland Avenue will take a month or so to renovate and get ready, Green will spend the meantime on what he’s calling a ‘Firehouse Food Truck Tour’. Announcements will be made daily on social media and neighbors will find Green’s infamous food truck parked outside area firehouses, not only cooking amazing food but giving 10% of the days sales back to the participating firehouse.
Green’s t-shirts and giveback cards will also be for sale, helping to contribute even more to the sometimes struggling volunteer firehouses.
The tour, which will run from 12-7 p.m. on weekends and 3-8 p.m. on weekdays will last until August 4, when Green’s new space completes its renovation and opens to the public.
“I just want to say I’m sorry for the delays,” said Green. “It’s all about permits and time. But we’re being forced out of our old location and so I’m taking this as another way to give back to the community.”
In his process of renovation, Green hopes to add more seating options for his clients, a horseshoe pit and maybe even an ice cream trailer parked outside, allowing people to walk to the location, bring their families and friends and hang out. According to Green, one of the reasons he loves the new location is because of its neighborhood feel.
While a lot of things may be changing, Green won’t be wavering on his dedication to providing gluten free options to those with celiac disease. While his current menu and shop boasts 40+ gluten free options and a separate gluten free fryer, grille and prep area, his new location will create an entire gluten free section.
Green also has plans to add exciting new food options to his ever-growing and diverse menu. His plans right now? Dessert egg rolls and a buffalo chicken mac n’ cheese cheesesteak on a pretzel roll. Green’s pretzel rolls have garnered much attention in the past, not only for their delicious nature (he goes through a rack an hour!) but also for their focus on charity; Green gives back $.25 from the sale of every pretzel roll back to the local food bank.
“I really think we’ve lost a sense of community and one of my goals is to try and bring it back. I want to be president, if I can help the community now, imagine what I could do if ever elected to office,” Green said. “Community is my thing. I see charity as my way of stepping up and helping those in need because I care; also because I want to be a positive force in a negative world.”
