A vacant house was heavily damaged by flames Sunday afternoon.
Newtown Fire Association Deputy Chief Brian Gerhard said the neighbor of the vacant home in the 100 block of Stoopville Road in Newtown Township called in the blaze and responders arrived to find flames. The call was dispatched around noon Sunday.
Firefighters began an interior attack but cleared the burning home once it was obvious the fire had spread through the walls of the house. The home had balloon-style walls that allowed flames to freely travel between floors, Gerhard said.
Once the firefighters were cleared of the burning home, an exterior attack was mounted and Newtown’s large ladder truck was used to control the flames, the deputy chief said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of mid-afternoon.
Due to the high heat, the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad brought a special truck to check the vital signs of firefighters and help cool them down. Officials handing out water bottles were spotted throughout the scene.
No injuries were reported.
The Langhorne-Middletown, Lingohocken, Northampton and Upper Makefield fire companies assisted Newtown crews at the scene. The Newtown Ambulance Squad and Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad also responded along with township police.
