Newtown Borough Council is expected to work on a resolution to oppose the proposed Elcon hazardous wastewater treatment facility next month.

The Council said at their voting meeting last week that they would work on drafting a resolution in opposition of the proposed Elcon facility in Falls Township. The resolution will be discussed at the August 3 work session.

Elcon plans to build a 22-acre treatment facility at a 33-acre site at 100 Dean Sievers Place in the Keystone Industrial Port Complex in Falls. The company is expected to submit Phase II plans to state officials for review this year.

Last month, concerned Bucks County resident Betty Tatham and Patricia McCarron, both of Northampton, spoke before the council to voice their concerns about a hazardous wastewater treatment facility being constructed within a mile of the Delaware River, which provides drinking water to much of the area.

Borough officials said their resolution would be crafted with available data and based on review of similar resolutions passed by nearby towns. So far, Bristol Borough, Middletown, Morrisville, Newtown Township, Tullytown, Upper Makefield and Yardley are among the towns opposing the proposed facility.
