A member of the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors is stepping down.

Supervisor Mike Gallagher, according to the Newtown branch of the Patch network, will be stepping down as he will be taking the role of Bucks County Controller.

Gallagher was confirmed on July 13 by the Pennsylvania Senate to fill the county position that has been vacant since former Controller Ray McHugh was appointed to serve as a judge.

“I thank the Governor and the Senate for their support and confidence. I am fully committed to using my professional and governmental experience to provide quality services to the people of Bucks County, and to finding new ways to help protect their hard-earned tax dollars,” Gallagher told The Advance of Newtown.

Gallagher made headlines in 2010 after he was arrested for DUI. The arrest was cleared from his record after he completed a program for first-time offenders. Despite the incident, Gallagher remained on the governing body and continued to serve his community. He has been a very visible face at new business openings in the township.

Gallagher is a Philadelphia native who has lived in Bucks County for almost 20 years. He has served on the Newtown Board of Supervisors since 2007. He is also an active member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
