Bucks County remembered the 18 locals killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks this past weekend.
Roughly 1,000 people gathered at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield Sunday evening to remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks that shook the nation to its core 15 years ago.
September 11 responder Jon Adler, president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Foundation, lead the annual event and introduced the speakers, including Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick.
Nick Berger spoke of his father, Jim Bergner, who never made it out of the South Tower of the World Trade Center after helping save his co-workers at AON. Nick Berger, who grew up in Lower Makefield and was 8 years old at the time of the attacks, is one of thousands of children who has grown up missing a parent due to the attacks.
Toward the end of the ceremony, former Montgomery County police Officer Christopher Smith, who is now an award-winning Broadway composer, introduced the premier of “You Were There” (A Tribute to the Fallen) that was performed by local high schoolers.
The ceremony capped off with a moving candlelight vigil.
