Newtown Township has welcomed a new police officer.

Local Nicholas Ciambrello, 23, was sworn in by District Judge Mick Petrucci last week during the board of supervisors meeting. His first day of work began Thursday, September 15.

According to officials, Ciambrello is graduate of Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Wilkes University.

Ciambrello served as a summer intern with the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department in 2014 and completed the Pennsylvania police training program at Montgomery County Community College. Ciambrello was selected from a pool of candidates who completed the consortium test.
