Saturday was a big day for historic Newtown as the 40th annual Market Day brought many visitors, vendors and crafters into the borough.

The event was a good day for the community to come together but also acts as a fundraiser for the Historic Newtown Association. According to Paul Gauza, the president of the association, the group maintains two historicĀ buildings in Newtown Borough and hosts numerous events.

Market Day is more than just a way to raise money for the organization, according to Gauza. The day acts as a way for the different facets of the town to come together and enjoy the community.

“There are a lot of hours and work that goes into it,” said Gauza, mentioning the many volunteers who work to make the day a success.

It was cloudy on Saturday, but the rain held off for the festivities. The weather clearly did not stop crowds of people from coming out and enjoying the day.

The association is always looking for volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering can go to the organization’s new website Newtownhistoric.org.
