Across Bucks County, 8,404 pounds of unwanted or unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs were taken back on Saturday.

Kyle Moskovitz was stationed at the Upper Makefield Police Department collection point and said that the drug take-back was going well. By 1 p.m., that station had not yet collected a full box of medication but members of the public kept stopping in.

In Newtown Township, there was not as strong a turnout as there have been in years past by late morning, according to township police Detective Daniel Bartle.

There is a lot of education being done on the permanent medication drop boxes that exist throughout the county. An increased use of the permanent box could be a likely reason for the decline in the set drug take back days, Bartle explained.

A third area collection point was located in Newtown Borough.

Chief Bucks County Detective Chris McAteer said the collected drugs will be taken to be destroyed and disposed of properly. The Pennsylvania National Guard assists area police in collecting the drugs for destruction and disposal.
