A family of two children and four adults escaped injury early Tuesday when a fire damaged their home.
The fire was reported at the house in the 100 block of Fox Hill Drive off Durham Road in Wrightstown around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Crews from the Lingohocken Fire Company and the Newtown Fire Association responded to the call.
Ted Middleman, Wrightstown’s fire marshal, said the fire was contained to the basement and a portion of the outside.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of mid-Tuesday morning and the home remained uninhabitable.
The family heard their smoke detectors go off and found smoke coming from their basement. The adults and children quickly left the burning home and met outside on the property at a pre-planned location, Middleman said.
“We’re thrilled they heard the detectors and followed a plan,” the fire marshal said.
Middleman pointed to the family’s adherence to a fire evacuation plan as an example of the importance of preparing a fire safety plan.
“The homeowners did everything right.”
