Giant Food Stores Ends Thanksgiving Turkey Promotion, Will Continue To Help Food Banks

repost-us-8532517If you were hoping to earn a free turkey this year from your local Giant Food Store, you’re fresh out of luck.

The Pennsylvania-based grocery chain with locations around Lower Bucks County confirmed this week that their annual BonusCard free turkey program has ended.

“We have seen a decline in our turkey redemption program,” Giant spokesperson Samantha Krepps said. “We are redirecting our free turkey program to benefit an even greater number of our customers.”

The company said they know that customers often donate their free turkey they earned on their BonusCard to local charities that feed those in need.

“As part of being a responsible retailer, we are committed to doing everything we can to give back to our neighbors … Giant has pledged that a comparable donation is made to these local hunger relief organizations,” Krepps said.

While Giant has stopped their reward program, ShopRite’s free turkey program remains in place.

The National Turkey Federation (yes, that’s a real thing) reported that Americans eat 46 million turkeys on Thanksgiving.
