A new area code will be coming to Bucks County.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), who oversees area code distribution in the state, announced this week that they have granted approval to a petition by Neustar Inc. to create an additional area code in the 215 and 267 region, which includes Berks, Bucks, Lehigh, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
The new area code will only be assigned to new phone numbers once all the 215 and 267 area code numbers have been exhausted.
In NeuStar’s petition, they claim all variants of the 215 and 267 area code will be exhausted by the end of the first half of 2018.
PUC officials said they will not seek comments on relief recommendations and will move forward with creating a new area code in the coming year.
The 215 area code was established in the late 1940s and the 267 area code was created in 1997.
