Monday Traffic Signal Problems Caused By Transformer Fires

A series of traffic signal issues in Newtown Township Monday were caused by transformer fires, according to police.

The issue was first noticed around 5 p.m. Monday in the area of Newtown-Yardley Road and Penn Trail. Soon after, reports of problems with other nearby traffic signals was reported, police said.

The problem was linked to a series of transformer fires and PECO was called, police said.

The Newtown Township Public Works Department responded to the scene to set up emergency generators to keep traffic moving while repair work was completed.
