The effects of the recent weather are beginning to be felt in Bucks County.
As of Tuesday, Bucks County remains under a drought watch, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The watch does not put mandatory restrictions in place but encourages residential and business water customers to take steps to conserve water.
While we have seen some recent rain, the region has not seen significant rainfall and is entering drought conditions. The lack of rain is impacting a large portion of the Northeast and some of the southern states, according to the National Weather Service.
Along with the drought, the risk of brush fires has increased due to dry vegetation.
Here are tips from the DEP to help preserve water during the drought watch:
- Run water only when necessary. Avoid running the faucet while brushing your teeth or shaving, or letting the shower run for several minutes before use.
- Check for household leaks. A leaking toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water each day.
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
- Replace older appliances with high-efficiency, front-loading models that use about 30 percent less water and 40 to 50 percent less energy.
- Install low-flow plumbing fixtures and aerators on faucets.
