A Newtown Township banker has been charged following allegations he stole more than $1,100.

Matthew D. Warner, 30, of Philadelphia, was charged last week with knowledge that property is the proceeds of an illegal act, unlawful use of a computer, theft and receiving property. He was arraigned and is free on $50,000 unsecured bail.

Bucks County Detective Eric Landamia wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed last week that an investigator from Citizens Bank contacted his office about a suspected theft of money from the branch in the ACME on West Road. The shortage of money was found to be $1,000 in $50 bills and $160 in $20 bills.

Wanrer, according to court papers, took the money at the beginning of November and changed the balance in the bank’s computer system to make it appear the money was balanced.

A Citizens Bank investigator spoke to Warner and he admitted to taking $1,000 in $50 bills and force balancing the computer system, police said.

The bank obtained a surveillance image of Warner holding a large amount of cash at an ATM the day money went missing, police said.

Warner’s Citizen Bank personal account allegedly showed a $1,000 deposit and an $85 deposit the day of the theft. Warner reportedly  told the bank investigator the $85 was his roommates contribution to the utility bill.

The alleged theft was discovered during a November 2 audit at the Citizens Bank branch.
