Suspected DUI
At approximately 1:35 a.m., an officer was traveling on the Newtown Bypass and observed a motorist disregard a red traffic signal when making a left onto Buck Road. The vehicle then accelerated to a high rate of speed past Mill Pond Road. Police began to follow and stop the motorist in the area of Middle Holland Road. At the stop the driver was identified as 52-year-old Richard Lazar of Upper Southampton. After an investigation the officer formed the opinion that Lazar was operating a vehicle while under the influence alcohol and or a controlled substance and was incapable of safe driving. He was taken into custody and transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown where blood was drawn and will be submitted to NMS Labs for analysis. Lazar was then transported to his home and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
