Delaware Riverkeeper Network To Host Review Of Proposed Gas & Oil Drilling Amendment

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network and newly formed Bucks County Environmental Coalition will hold a community meeting to review the draft gas and oil drilling amendment to the Joint Municipal Zoning Ordinance. The ordinance is currently under consideration by Newtown, Wrightstown, and Upper Makefield townships.

The community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Newtown Friends Meeting House, located at 219 Court Street in Newtown Borough.

The proposed ordinance’s aim is to set up boundaries and limits for companies looking to use exploratory drilling. Parts of the area sit in a shale formation that includes natural resources companies could extract from the ground using the controversial fracking process.

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network, which has reviewed the draft ordinance based on its Municipal Guidebook “Defending the Environmental Rights of Pennsylvania Communities from Shale Gas Development – Strategies for Residents and Local Officials” will also host Jordan Yeager, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network’s attorney, who will present a detailed review of the ordinance and a question and answer session.

All of the public is welcome and officials from the three municipalities have been invited to attend, according to a recent press release.
