The nice weather coupled with the long holiday weekend brought several hundred families to Washington Crossing Historic Park Sunday to celebrate the first president’s birthday.

The visitors center at the Upper Makefield state park was packed as reenactor John Godzieba, who portrays George Washington, sunk his saber into a cake commemorating what would have been the American’s hero’s 285th birthday.

Children posed for photos with the reenactors and some even handed Godzieba handmade cards to mark Washington’s birthday.

Aside from the cake, the colonial village along the Delaware River and the nearby walking trails were filled with families taking in the sights.
