Newtown police are expected to charge an Upper Bucks County man with DUI after he allegedly veered off the road Friday night.

According to police, on Friday, February 20, at approximately 9 p.m., Newtown Township officers were dispatched to the 20 block of Stoopville Road for the report of a one vehicle traffic accident.

The first officer on the scene observed a pickup truck that appeared to have drifted off the roadway, struck a drainage ditch, and drove across two lawns taking out a mailbox before coming to rest in some vegetation, according to a press release.

The driver was identified as Dennis Evans, 55, of Pipersville.  Based on an investigation, police allege that Evans was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Evans was taken into custody and transported to Saint Mary Medical Center where he agreed to submit blood for chemical testing.  Charges of DUI are pending the results of the blood analysis.

Editor’s Note: All individuals arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The story was compiled using information from police and public court documents.
