UPDATE: Power Restored To Newtown Area

PECO spokesperson Ben Armstrong said utility crews restored power to all customers who were impacted shortly after 7 p.m.

The outage was caused by downed wires in the 1600 block of Forrest Grove Road in Buckingham, Armstrong said.

More than 4,000 customers in the Newtown area were without power Wednesday evening.

PECO crews were looking to determine the cause for the large outage that impacted parts of Buckingham, Newtown Township, Northampton and Wrightstown as of 6:55 p.m., utility spokesman Ben Armstrong said.

The outage occurred at 6:03 p.m., Armstrong said.

A NewtownPANow.com reader reported that the McCaffery’s shopping center on Eagle Road was without power service and many businesses were clearing out due to the disruption. Intersections along Durham Road were also dark, but the Newtown Bypass traffic signals appeared powered up.

Armstrong said PECO would begin work to repair the program once it is discovered.

Below is a breakdown of the outage:

    • Buckingham: 127 customers without power
    • Newtown Township: 2,518 customers without power
    • Northampton: 436 customers without power
    • Wrightstown: 984 customers without power
