UPDATE: Police Continue To Investigate School Threat

Newtown Township police released the following statement:

At approximately 6 p.m., police received a report from a concerned parent whose child is a student at Council Rock High School North.  The student said that there was information going around that there would be a shooting in the school on March 23, 2017.  Police began an investigation speaking with the reporting students in the presence of a parent.  Officers received conflicting stories from students but no additional information.  Newtown Township Police and representatives of the Council Rock School District are working diligently to bring this situation to a safe and satisfactory resolution.

After a thorough investigation Newtown Township Police determined that there was no credible evidence to substantiate the statements that a shooting would take place at Council Rock High School – North today.

An email to parents at Council Rock High School North Thursday morning caused some alarm.

The message from Superintendent Dr. Robert Fraser said a rumor that a gun would be brought to the Newtown Township high school Thursday was deemed not credible by police.

A stepped up police presence would be at the high school Thursday, Fraser said.

“As always, student safety is our foremost priority,” Fraser wrote.

The gun rumor was posted on social media.
