Upper Makefield Makes Minor Change To Waste Ordinance, Purchases New Gas Pump

The Upper Makefield Municipal Complex

Upper Makefield updated their solid waste ordinance at their Board of Supervisors meeting.

The minor change, according to Interim Township Manager David Nyman, adds a sentence to the current ordinance. Solicitor Mary Eberle stated the previous ordinance was detailed but was missing the requirement that all residents in the township have a waste hauler, which nearly all residents already have.

The requirement for the update will allow Upper Makefield to apply for a $19,000 grant that is through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Nyman said a report in a regional newspaper said an article might have been misleading. He said the article may have given the impression there were large changes to the ordinance.

“It’s a shame that reporter didn’t show up tonight. Maybe we could have set the record straight,” Board Chairman Dan Rattigan said.

In other business, the township approved spending $19,545 to remove an existing gas pump used by municipal vehicles.  The price tag also includes a new pump and system that would track use of Upper Makefield’s pumps, Nyman said.
