A press conference Tuesday morning at the Bucks County Justice Center in Doylestown announced a new county effort to help mobilize the community to combat the local drug epidemic.

What has been coined the ‘Bucks County Drug Epidemic Blitz’, is being sponsored by Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub, Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission Executive Director Diane Rosati, and Robert Whitley of TruthSpeaks.net.

The blitz will run from April 19 through April 29 and is being called “an opening salvo in the war against this epidemic”.

Four educational town hall forum events have been planned throughout the county during the blitz. The forums, which will be hosted by panels composed of top community leaders and experts, will provide top quality information on the problem at hand as well as provide suggestions on how all involved can help combat the local drug epidemic.

According to a news release, there will be a specific focus on the heroin and opiate issue – which has plagued the area in recent years.

The first town hall will take place on April 19 at Truman High School in Levittown, the next on April 25 at the First Baptist Church in Perkasie, the third on April 26 at Central Bucks East in Buckingham, and the last on April 27 at the Crossing Community Church in Newtown.

Other events, including a Narcan training event in Morrisville on April 19, a community round-table at the Bristol Borough Hall on April 20, and a countywide excess medication giveback drive on April 29 will help bring the blitz full circle.
