A new eyeglasses and frame shop opened in Newtown late last week.

Eye Envy is the brainchild of Tiffany Marshall and Carlton Smith. Marshall has the background in eye care and as an optician. Smith brings the marketing and business expertise, and since the official opening, the duo has received immense support.

Marshall worked at Steven Robbins, right down the street from her new business, for seven years.

“I enjoy all of this – the fashion and medical sides,” Marshall explained.

Prepping the business at 29 South State Street to get ready to serve as a proper storefront took longer than expected, but the entire inside of the store has been done by hand.

The main goal of the store’s aesthetic was to be open and inviting for customers.

With all of the excitement of having a huge grand opening attended by former Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook last Thursday, Marshall notes that she still has some nerves.

“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t still nervous,” she said of her new venture.

“We are incredibly lucky to have all of the support that we have,” he said. Mayor Charles “Corky” Schwartz and the community at large have been huge, Smith explained.

Despite the nerves of opening a new business, Marshall is serious about her work as an optician and has serious skills.

“I would never sell someone something that did not look good on them,” Marshall explained. “The ultimate goal is always customer service.”

Smith said that Eye Envy’s customer service will be what continues to separate the business from the rest of the frame and lens shops in the area. In addition to helping customers with with new frames, they can craft prescription lenses for customers.

“We’ve only been open for a short amount of time, but I already feel comfortable,” Marshall said.
