The field  behind Bucks County Community College in Newtown was filled with people from all over, coming together to foster community peace in the second annual Human Peace Sign Event sponsored by The Peace Center Sunday afternoon.

Local music talent highlighted the schedule – after a communal drum circle at the start of the event – the Cerebelles, John Beacher, Too Many Cooks, and LisaBeth Weber highlighted peace and happiness in their performances. The Lenape Middle School Choir closed the music with a few selections, culminating with “Imagine” by John Lennon as people started to form the peace sign.

Other activities included henna and face painting, lawn games, and children’s music. Exhibits from Arrows 4 American Indians, the Interfaith Council Board, Welcoming the Stranger and Indivisible rounded out the participants.

One visitor to the event was Mary Glatz of Chicago, who was glad to see such a community activity and so many people coming together in the name of peace.

“It’s good to see that there are people who care about peace, inclusivity and social justice,” Glatz said.

The formation was completed just before 4 p.m., and aerial photos were taken with a drone provided by Bob Krist of New Hope.

The Peace Center is celebrating 35 years of fostering peace from their Langhorne office.
