The annual Newtown Memorial Day Parade kicked off early Monday morning, regardless of the threatening rain.

“We’re just out here to celebrate the people who fought for our country and gave us the opportunity to be here on a rainy day,” explained John White, a resident of Newtown Borough who comes to the parade every year.
“We were still going to come regardless of the rain,” said Pat, a resident of Holland who makes an effort to come out to the parade with her husband every year.
Last year’s parade was cancelled due to rain.
