Even if you or your children haven’t YET been assaulted, if your significant other commits violence to your living environment, you can seek immediate protection. If your significant other has threatened to use a weapon, you can get help. Here is how to do so immediately, in three easy steps:If you are sexually assaulted, call 911 immediately. Most of our Bucks County Police Departments have officers trained to deal with your trauma. You will be taken to a hospital specializing in sexual assault and treated with sensitivity, respect and dignity

Step 1: Acknowledge to yourself that things have gotten out of hand for you and/or your kids.

Step 2: Go to Legal Aid in Doylestown, one of our WE CARE LEGAL offices, 1-855-LAW-FAMILY, or another attorney and fill out a Petition for Protection from Abuse.

Step 3: Talk to a judge at lunch time. If the judge finds merit to your request, an Emergency Protection From Abuse will be issued immediately, granting you and your loved ones total protection and evicting the abuser from your home or apartment (even if the abuser owns the home or signed the lease)

Once granted, take the judge’s order to your local police for immediate service, eviction and enforcement. This Emergency Order will give blanket protection for up to twelve days until a full hearing can be held and all sides can be heard. At that hearing you will have a lawyer and you can seek to extend protection for up to three years.

With the emergency order in hand and the abuser out of the picture, you can breathe, take stock of your situation, enroll your support system, get counseling, and look to the future.
