The prices of more than 400 products in Pennsylvania’s wine and spirits stores will be going up Monday.
Philly.com reported Sunday that the price increases will up the cost of many bottles by at least one dollar, and more than two dozen products will rise in price by between $2 and $100.
As of Friday, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) did not release a list of what products will see a price increase come Monday.
The increase marks the first time in 25 years that prices will go up at Pennsylvania-owned Fine Wine and Good Spirits stores due to a PLCB decision. Previous increases were due to distributor costs.
Price hikes follow, according to a PLCB spokesperson, a review of wine and spirit costs in other nearby states, a TribLive.com article said.
The agency is able to raise prices under the recently passed Act 39.
State Sen. Chuck McIlhinney, who represents portions of Lower Bucks County, told PennLive.com the PLCB is raising prices in accordance with Act 39. He added some prices at Fine Wine and Good Spirits stores were lower than in other states.
In a place like Lower Bucks County, where the illegal practice of trekking to tax-free Delaware or a few minutes away to New Jersey for a larger selection is common, a price increase in wine and spirits may make a difference in sales.
The increases come months after the PLCB monopoly reported losing more money than it were making, according to an Altoona Mirror report.
