There was no need for worry over the man on the roof of Newtown Middle School Tuesday and Wednesday. He was just the principal.

Newtown Middle School Principal Tim Long became a bit of a regional sensation after he spent overnight on the roof of the building. Long braved the chilly weather to live up to a pledge he made to his students.

Long said that he would sleep on the roof of the school if they raised $8,000 to aid victims of Hurricane Harvey, and they did. The idea for the challenge came from Newtown Middle School attendance secretary Kit Azzaro, according to Fox 29.

“We would have raised the money no matter what. I just wanted to create some fun out of the atmosphere,” Long told the TV station.

“Have fun sleeping on the roof!” a boy leaving school Tuesday yelled at Long.

Long posted a series of funny videos from his stay on the roof, including one where the famous Wilson ball from the movie “Castaway” made an appearance.
