A Newtown man was charged Sunday with aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter relating to a death in the Lehigh Valley.

Daniel Ryan Brymer, 21, was arraigned at 1:30 a.m. Sunday before Berks County District Judge Michael G. Hartman. He was released on $100,000 unsecured bail.

Allentown-based WFMZ reported the charges were related to the shooting death of a man Saturday afternoon at a home on Kutztown Road in Muhlenberg Township, Berks County.

Daniel J. Smith, 31, Muhlenberg, was killed when Brymer accidentally shot and killed him while at his house helping him pack for a move. After the men were playing with an air gun, Brymer mistakenly pulled a real 9mm handgun and shot at Smith, according to court papers obtained by the Reading Eagle newspaper.

Police wrote in court papers that emergency responders arrived to find Brymer rendering aid to his fatally wounded friend, the newspaper reported.
