Democrat Steve Santarsiero will fill Republican incumbent Republican State Sen. Chuck McIlhinney’s 10th District seat.

Santarsiero beat challenger Republican State Rep. Marguerite Quinn for the seat by more than 6,400 votes Tuesday.

McIlhinney made the decision not to run for reelection.

Santarsiero previously served as a state representative in Bucks County and ran an unsuccessful bid for congress in 2016. An attorney by training, he served as an lawyer with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office in 2017.

Santarsiero was inspired to leave his job at a law practice in New Jersey after witnessing the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York City. He worked as a history teacher in the Bensalem School District before running for elected office.

Quinn, a state representative from Central Bucks County, championed herself as a moderate who was willing to work with both parties to get solutions to Pennsylvania’s problems.
