At the April meeting of the Council Rock School Board Directors, the body voted to approve final bids for four major capital improvement projects around the district.

The board finance and facilities committees worked extensively with the district and outside contractors to bring the matter before the board before the conclusion of the school year.

The first of the projects includes repairs and coating to Council Rock High School North’s Walt Snyder Stadium in Newtown Township at a total cost of $364,402. The project is subject to solicitors’ review and audit.

The second major project includes tennis and basketball court replacement at Council Rock High School South in Northampton Township. It comes in at $1.8 million and is subject to solicitors’ review and audit.

The third project includes paving repairs and concrete sidewalk replacement at Council Rock High School South for a total cost of just over $1 million subject to solicitors’ review and audit.

Finally, the Council Rock High School South auditorium lighting improvements project including select added alternates came in at a total cost of just under $2.7 million while also being subject to solicitors’ review and audit.

Bids came in on all four projects on April 5 and were reviewed by the finance and facilities committee on April 11. In regards to the Council Rock High School South tennis and basketball court project, the board also approved a bid for professional services to complete the project. The agreement for a clean-fill assessment for the project was also reviewed by the committee on April 11.

On a separate but related note, the board approved a design contract for a district-wide playground renovation project which will address outdoor facilities at many of the district’s schools. Proposals were received for the project on March 28 and reviewed at the April 11 finance and facilities committee meeting. The total cost for that project clocks in at $193,870.

Finance and facilities member Ed Tate also mentioned that the committee had extensive conversations regarding Chancellor Center renovations. The Chancellor Center serves as the administrative hub of the district where the Council Rock School Board and all committees meet.

As the school year winds down, Superintendent Dr. Andrew Sanko highlighted three important dates the community should be aware of. First is Teacher Appreciation Week which occurs the week of May 8-12.

“I’m sure you will agree that one week is not enough time to celebrate the talented and selfless teachers who work with our students each day. They say a good education can change anyone, but more importantly, a good teacher can change everything,” said Dr. Sanko.

He also announced that graduation for the Class of 2023 will occur on Thursday, June 8. Commencement for Council Rock North students will take place at Walt Snyder Stadium, while Council Rock South will host graduation ceremonies in their auditorium.

The following day, Friday, June 9, will mark the last day of school for students. Dr. Sanko directed the community to frequent the district’s online platforms for the most accurate and up-to-date information as the school year comes to a close.
