Residents in Lower Bucks County were bracing for the impacts of Tropical Storm Ophelia, which is expected to deliver a mix of rain, wind, and potential coastal flooding through the weekend.
The first raindrops from Tropical Storm Ophelia started to fall late Friday night and intensified into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The rain is predicted to persist through Sunday, according to forecasters from the National Weather Service.
Forecasters anticipate 2 to 3 inches of rain across the county. However, certain pockets might receive as much as 4 to 5 inches.
But rain isn’t the only concern. The storm also carries with it strong winds, with gusts that could reach speeds between 30 to 50 mph.
“Some downed trees and power lines possible which can result in scattered power outages, especially close to the coast,” forecasters said.
For those residing near the Delaware River, minor coastal flooding is anticipated, especially in locations like Bristol Borough and stretching all the way up to Trenton.
Forecasters have asked residents to stay informed and secure outdoor items that might be susceptible to strong winds.
The storm led to the cancellation or postponement of several events in Bucks County over the weekend.
The National Hurricane Center reported at 4:50 a.m. Saturday that the tropical storm was close to making landfall in North Carolina.
