We’re off to see the Wizard…….the wonderful Wizard of Oz ……
It’s PLAY time again at Villa Joseph Marie, the premier, private, all-girls college preparatory academically comprehensive experience in Bucks County.

Come PLAY in the PAC!
The play based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a children’s book written by L. Frank Baum and first published in 1900, will be presented in the state-of-the-art, 600-person seating capacity VJM Performing Arts Center.

This modern fairy tale with a delightfully levelheaded and assertive heroine and engaging fantasy characters is enormously popular, a classic of children’s literature.

The Fine Arts Department at VJM offers a growing, most cohesive program that encourages interdisciplinary communication among its faculty, and exposes students to all of the creative arts disciplines. Through the VJM Drama curriculum, students are exposed to the basics of theater and a sampling of acting, improvising, script-writing, production, and technical work.

VJM Performing Arts Administrator/ Fine Arts Chair, Mrs. Melissa Holdren, and her talented, vivacious cast of young actors are genuinely excited to perform for their peers and the community.
“On its stage, our students will experience a sense of empowerment as never before. At a time when schools throughout the country are slashing the budgets for art programs, our school is recognizing the value of a true STEAM education in the formation of the whole person,” confirmed Mrs. Holdren.

A myriad of exceptionally talented students from VJM, Holy Ghost Prep, Archbishop Ryan, and St. Katharine Drexel will command the stage, trotting delightfully and tunefully down that fabled yellow brick road on Friday, November 10, 2023 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, November 11, 2023 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, November 12, 2023 1:00 p.m.

Tickets for Children and Students $15.00 & Adults $20.00.

The three Turco sisters, Abbigail, VJM ’24, Cienna, VJM ’25, and Sophia, VJM ’27 are thrilled to be performing together again since 4 years ago when they had all acted in “Honk! JR” with the Chalfont Musical Youth Players.

CiCi [cast A] and Abbi [cast B] have the opportunity to portray Dorothy Gale, and Sophia stars in the ensembles. “Music, choir, orchestra, and band…. It’s a family thing!”

HGP seniors, Liam Halligan [Cast A] and Don Holdren [Cast B] master the role of the mighty Wizard of Oz.

The sparkly pink rendering of Glinda, the Good Witch, is aptly portrayed by Madison Sperduto, VJM ‘25.  “I love it. She’s bubbly and fun!”

Charlotte McGonigle, VJM ’24 convinced her Aunt’s dog, “Mamacita” to play the starring role of ToTo.

Watch for the Flying Monkeys’ antics of Katelyn Schuman, VJM ’27, and Valerie Tyshko, VJM ’25.

Many thanks to Mrs. Trisha Buchinski, mother of alumnae, actress and soloist, Madison, VJM ’19, and Jr. Class Vice President, Makenna, VJM ‘23 , who still comes and volunteers her skills as costume designer.

The versatile lighting crew who operate the lighting equipment and spotlights truly enhance and bring life to the performances. Kudos are due to the crew including Sophia Caruso ’26, Sheridan Fritz ’24, Mia Mastromarco ’25, Abbigail Phillips ’24, and Ava Spera ’25 who LIGHT up this timeless tale about relationships.

Now is the perfect time to be part of the captive audience that gets to witness the vibrant experience and little details with the element of unpredictability in the students’ theatre performances that clearly mesmerize in an intimate and relatable way.
