The area is preparing for a significant winter weather storm that is forecast for Friday.
The National Weather Service’s Philadelphia regional office put out a forecast calling for 4 to 6 inches of snow in Bucks County, with potential higher accumulations in some areas.
The central and lower ends of Bucks County were placed under a Winter Storm Warning for Friday morning through nighttime.
The snowfall is expected to begin early Friday morning by 7 a.m. and persist into the evening.
The storm is expected to disrupt both morning and evening commutes.
Temperatures are anticipated to plunge into the teens by late Friday night.
“Temperatures will rapidly drop into the teens late Friday night. Any untreated roads will become icy and dangerous,” forecasters said.
The National Weather Service forecast that winds on Saturday might lead to blowing snow across the roads.
The impending storm is part of a larger system tracking up the coast, bringing accumulating snow to both the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.
As the storm has developed, forecasters have increased its storm total predictions. They described it as a “complex system.”
In response to the forecast, local municipalities, PennDOT, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission began pre-treating roadways on Thursday evening in preparation.
The latest winter storm arrives on the heels of a previous snow event earlier in the week that dropped 1 to 3 inches of snow followed by days of sub-freezing temperatures.
