Citizens Bank has closed its branch inside the Acme in Newtown Township.

A reader pointed out the closure, which was confirmed with a recent filing from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

In early March, the Citizens Bank branch in the Bristol Township Acme on New Falls Road announced it will be closing.

Federal records show Citizens Bank has been closing several locations in the region in recent months.

Citizens Bank continues to operate a number of standalone and grocery-based branches in Lower Bucks County.

Locally and nationwide, banks have been scaling back the number of branches due to the rise in mobile and online banking.

Rhode Island-based Citizens Financial Group owns Citizens Bank and reported operating more than 1,000 branches across 11 states. The bank is the 13th largest in the nation.

In 2023, more than 2,500 bank branches across the country closed, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) data.
