The Newtown Township Police Department and Newtown Fire Rescue held a joint ceremony at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday to welcome new members and celebrate promotions.

Victoria Azzara, a resident of Central Bucks County, was sworn in as the newest police officer by District Judge Mick Petrucci.

Azzara, a March graduate of the Temple University Municipal Police Academy, holds a criminal justice degree with a minor in psychology from Temple University. She gained experience through internships with the Bucks County Detectives and the Bucks County Youth Center.

“We are fortunate to have Vicky join our team,” said Newtown Township Chief of Police John Hearn.

The ceremony also saw the swearing-in of five new firefighters: Ethan Tecker, Meg Cox, Tyler Starkey, Dan Burk, and Lucas Rosenthal. Additionally, firefighters Joe Martindell and Steve Katz were promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

Martindell has served the township as a firefighter since 1998, while Katz joined the department four years ago, according to Newtown Fire Rescue Chief Glenn Forsyth.

The personnel additions come as the fire service for Newtown Borough and Newtown Township expands coverage.
