Parts of Newtown Borough and Newtown Township were left in the dark Thursday evening following a power outage.

The outage was caused by a transformer fire on Jefferson Street, according to Newtown Patch.

The power outage affected more than 2,000 customers, plunging homes, businesses, and traffic signals into darkness.

The Council Rock School District was forced to cancel a scheduled facilities meeting due to the disruption.

While some residents reported having their service restored before nightfall, others endured the August heat without power well into the night, according to social media posts.

Nearly all customers appeared to be back on the grid as of Friday morning.
